Childhood to adulthood
Disease Characteristics
Weakness in upper arm and upper leg muscles with some evidence of wasting.
Usually improves with treatment of underlying thyroid
condition.
Inheritance
There appears to be a genetic predisposition to
autoimmune diseases.
The cause is unclear; researchers suspect viruses or
bacteria might trigger
the autoimmune response.
